Missy Elliot
Missy Elliot Gossip Folks
"Gossip Folks" was one of the most-played music videos on MTV and BET in 2003. This is also considered as Missy Elliot's second biggest hit with the successful duet with Ludacris. Missy Elliot's Gossip Folks which was greatly accepted by the dance community as well as the mainstream, received less attention when it is compared to "Work It". This is said to be because of the remix that Fatboy Slim included.
Great single album produced
The single "Pussycat" which is included in the album "Under Construction" went high up the charts in the Billboard Hot 100. The album is also known to be the best female rap album sold with more than 2 million copies distributed and sold in the United States alone. It also received nomination for Best Rap Album and Album of the Year. The unique sound of "Gossip Folks" is very captivating although the humor of "Work It" still stands out.
With the kind of music Missy Elliot produces, she will not be labeled as "just another female artist". Missy Elliot continues to amaze her fans and critics as well with her unique style, upfront lyrics and amazing dance music. The beat is of course credited to the talents of Timbaland. Missy Elliot's chart toppers of 2002 was the emotion packed "Gossip Folks". The lyrics of this music were about the gossip and rumors that had been going around about her. She expresses her distaste in how people could spread negative information about her for no reason.
Faith in her own style of music
In each of the Missy Elliot singles, they all made it up the charts and made their mark. Her videos of "Gossip Folks" were also a hit with the catchy dance moves and unique images. The beat was described to be 'contagious', and also made you want to dance. With this Missy proved that women from all walks of life can be sexual as well as forceful and still with a lot of dignity. She was not stereotyped because her style could not be branded. There was always something new with Missy Elliot. Although after "Gossip Folks" Missy Elliot outdid herself again with the Fatboy Slim remix described to be a stroke of genius. In this, the chunky bass line of Norman Cook which was his trademark was evident and hard-hitting with the beats which were once before the mediocre hip-hop tracks. These remixes brought Missy Elliot higher up the charts until it reached number 1 on the Billboard charts.
Fatboy Slim and Mousse T are responsible for the mixes. The Fatboy Slim mixes are a little more house than Mr. Cook normally does. The Mousse T's Pogo Extended Mix contain best mixes that are very guitar rock in vibe. This is the reason it went to number 1. This mix is very tasteful as house music yet very rap in vibes as well. The language is not so battered and beaten that it could not be understood, and for a club mix that is rare. Missy Elliot's "Gossip Folks" has the unique style of Missy Elliot that cannot be compared to the other female artists because she has a style on her own.
